tomas schmit hat vier bücher geschrieben, die er als kataloge bezeichnete und als werkverzeichnisse betrachtete: katalog 1, köln 1978; katalog 2, berlin 1987; katalog 3, frankfurt/m., 1997 und katalog 4, köln 2007 (posthum). die bücher sind anlässlich seiner retrospektiven in köln 1978, berlin und hannover 1987 und frankfurt am main 1997 sowie im zusammenhang mit einer zukünftigen ausstellung 2004 erschienen und umfassen jeweils listen seiner werke, kommentare zu den aufgeführten werken, texte über die themen der werke, sowie sprachspiele und originalpartituren.
auf den folgenden seiten machen wir tomas schmits vier kataloge auszugsweise zugänglich, d.h. wir veröffentlichen die listen der werke, die er für sie zusammengestellt hat, mitsamt den technischen angaben, die er gemacht hat. wir veröffentlichen abbildungen der werke, haben die schwarzweißen in den büchern allerdings durch farbige ersetzt, soweit verfügbar, und fehlende ergänzt. auf seiten- oder bildverweise, wie sie in den büchern stehen, haben wir verzichtet, und auch darauf, in den katalogen nicht genannte werke und varianten von werken zu erwähnen.
die folgenden seiten sind also keineswegs identisch mit tomas schmits katalogen, aber geben die von ihm gemachten angaben zu seinen werken wieder.
im block oben stehen die jahreszahlen, die tomas schmit bei der datierung seiner werke verwendet hat. klickt man auf eine zahl, werden die werke des entsprechenden jahres angezeigt, klickt man auf die abbildung neben einem spezifischen werk, wird diese angezeigt. klickt man auf "zoom image", erscheint diese abbildung vergrößert.
rechts neben den abbildungen stehen die werkbeschreibungen sowie hinweise auf die orte oder sammlung, in denen sie sich befinden. klickt man auf den button "more" unter einer werkbeschreibung, werden weitere abbildungen (z.b. serien und mehrteilige arbeiten) oder texte von tomas schmit zu den betreffeneden werken sichtbar.
ist kein bild zu sehen, fehlt uns das bildmaterial. viele zeichnungen von tomas schmit wurden zu ihrer entstehungszeit nicht photographisch dokumentiert. das tomas schmit archiv ist darum bemüht, fehlendes bildmaterial (z.b. photographien) oder fehlende angaben (z.b. standort) zu ergänzen. wir sind für jeden hinweis dankbar.

tomas schmit authored four books, which he described as kataloge (catalogues) and regarded as catalogues raisonnés: katalog 1, cologne 1978; katalog 2, berlin 1987; katalog 3, frankfurt am main 1997; and , cologne 2007 (posthumous). they were published on the occasion of his retrospectives in cologne in 1978, berlin and hanover in 1987, and frankfurt am main in 1997, as well as in connection with a planned exhibition in 2004, and each contains lists of his works, commentaries on the listed works, texts on the themes of the works, as well as wordplay and original scores.
on the following pages, we are making excerpts from tomas schmit's four books available; that is, we are publishing the listes of works that tomas schmit compiled for them, including the technical details. we are also publishing images of the works, where available, though we have replaced black-and-white images with colour photographs and supplemented any missing ones. we have omitted page or image references found in tomas schmit's books, as well as any mention of works and variants of works not included in them.
the following pages are therefore not identical to tomas schmit’s books, but they largely reflect the information he provided about his works.
on this page, we are making these books partly available; that is, we are publishing the lists of works drafted by tomas schmit, together with the technical details of the listed works provided by him. meanwhile, we have edited the illustrations that were printed in the books, replacing black-and-white ones with colour versions and adding missing ones. we also have omitted the page or image references provided in the books. furthermore, we have refrained from mentioning works or variants of works if they were not already included in them.
the works and work information on the following pages therefore correspond as closely as possible to the details provided by tomas schmit – the comments on the works are based on his texts.
the block at the top shows the years that tomas schmit used to date his works. clicking on a number displays the works from that year; clicking on the image next to a specific work displays that image. clicking on ‘zoom image’ enlarges the image.
to the right of the images are descriptions of the works, as well as details of the locations or collections in which they are held. clicking on the ‘more’ button beneath a work description reveals further images (e.g. series and multi-part works) or texts by tomas schmit relating to the works in question.
if no image is visible, we do not have the image material. many of tomas schmit’s drawings were not photographically documented at the time of their creation. the tomas schmit archive is endeavouring to supplement missing image material (e.g. photographs) or missing details (e.g. location). we are grateful for any information.
